Hey there! This edition of ‘Echoes Sanctuary’ is devoted to support over the holidays. Whatever support you need I hope there’s something here that can help you. I’m going to post some links here to helpful articles and sites as well as various ways of contacting me. I’m also going to give you some of my own advice for coping with the family over Christmas. I hope this helps at least one person!
Advice for coping with your crazy family!
Just smile and nod. I know, so simple right? The key is to keep the holiday cheer up all the time, no luls in conversation!
Breathe deeply, stay in control.
Don’t engage in petty chatter, just steer the conversation back to Christmas or otherwise safe topics, if possible.
Don’t rise to any bait, whether it’s an argument brewing or condescending behaviour, ignore it. Go to your happy place if you have one.
If you find there are topics you would like to keep off the table at family gatherings, speak to the member you feel most comfortable with, ask them to let others know there are a few topics that are off limits.
Remember it’s only a couple of days, then it’s over and you can relax. Take it one day at a time.
